This is where the book's strongest episodes come in, but it's also why Book Three falls just short of Book Two. However, because the invasion plan fails so spectacularly, Team Avatar is forced to go back to basics and come up with a new plan.
Everything before that is building up to "The Day of Black Sun", an epic two-part episode that would normally be worthy of being a season finale. However, most of these resolutions are contained in the last third or so of the book. This leads to Aang fulfilling his role as the Avatar by finally coming around to learning firebending, something he had avoided since Book One when he accidentally injured Katara with it. After so much build-up, Zuko finally redeems himself by joining Team Avatar and becoming Aang's firebending teacher.

Being the book where the whole series comes to a resounding conclusion, it's naturally filled with all sorts of intensely emotional payoffs. 4 The Legend Of Korra - Book One: Airīook Three is a special book for quite a few reasons. But perhaps most importantly, Book One set the stage for all of the later books, regarding both setting and characters. In the end, while the book is absolutely necessary to the development of the show as a whole, it doesn't stand as well on its own as its two successors. Book One was also the only book to sport the intimidating Zhao, who added his own uniqueness to the book's overall conflict. Nonetheless, Book One introduced most of the show's great major characters, including Aang, Katara, Sokka, Zuko, and Iroh. While Books Two and Three are known for striking a precarious balance between an episodic story and an overarching plot, Book One leans much more heavily towards Western animation's episodic roots. While the first book is of course where Avatar got its start, Book One actually stands out for being the book most unlike this series's other two.
